This Little Light of Mine
Dec 11
My neighborhood has a theme every year for Christmas. From snow flocked Christmas trees in your lawn, to red ribbons, etc. Well, for the past couple of years, the theme has been white lights, meaning your house has to be adorned in white Christmas lights.
Not wanting to start any static, I participated as well. I have white lights along the edge of my roof in the front of the house, but I also have a wreath on my front door, along with a spotlight shining on said wreath, and a single candle light in each window of the front of the house. Nice and simple, nothing outlandish.
But my neighbor up the block from me, Mrs. Barnes, she takes it to the extreme. She has enough white lights on her house and in her lawn that planes could use her lawn as a landing strip. It’s so bright, that even the baby Jesus in the manger on her lawn has to cover his eyes. I would love to see her electric bill for the month of December.

I hate those you have to do like everyone else neighborhoods. REBEL!!!! Put up red, black and green lights.
I am so done Nikki….”Baby Jesus has to cover his eyes”?
Girl you are hilarious!
Does EVERY house on the block participate? I love putting up lights, but I would like to have my own style. Last year we had white lights, this year we bought all new COLORFUL lights!
It’s so bright, that even the baby Jesus in the manger on her lawn has to cover his eyes.
Instant classic.
Nikki you’re a nut! Reminds me of those stories on the Today Show where people come to the house just to see the million lights. I think one guy said he started putting them up in October to get them done on time and his bill was $1200! Crazy!
Nikki, you are so hilarious! In NC there are people in every town who go way too overboard with the lights. There is this one man here in Greensboro who has an interactive light display.
this is just too much! LOL i was watching this show on tlc about crazy christmas lights. they featured the house you could see from space. these folk would start designing the light in july and august, this one cat had binders full of designs!
i am not doing lights at the new house. we quit doing lights at my mom’s about 5 years ago. it just didn’t feel like it was worth it.
You live in such a “neighborhoody” place. Everyone on my street who puts up lights does their own thing…unfortunately….it’s too much!
i keeps it extremely simple; my tree is up, and there’s a lovely wreath complete with christmas bear hanging on my door. i bet those white lights are gorgeous though. *smiles* simply gorgeous.
You did much better than I. I was kinda lazy with the lights.
Luv, I keeps it simple according to our taste. Whatever we’re feeling for the period we do. But even at our craziest, it pales in comparison to some of the folks that get all out of control over this. You had some crazy one-liners in this post luv. That baby Jesus line damn near choked my azz!
LOL! I’m still not into the decorating thing…maybe next year.
Holla!
oh my god that was hilarious!
