Tyler Perry’s Meet The Browns

What’s life without a Tyler Perry film every few months?  And why is his name in every friggin’ title?  You don’t see Spike Lee’s name in the title of his films.  We know by now it’s from your production company, Tyler.  You can chill with that.  Anyway, here’s a first look at the film, Meet The Browns, adapted from his stageplay of the same name.

MeetTheBrowns1 MeetTheBrowns2

Release Date: March 21, 2008
Director: Tyler Perry
Screenwriter: Tyler Perry
Cast: Tyler Perry, Angela Bassett, David Mann, Tamela Mann, Lance Gross, Chloe Bailey, Mariana Tolbert, Rick Fox, Sofia Vergara, Irma P. Hall

Synopsis: A single mother living in inner city Chicago, Brenda has been struggling for years to make ends meet and keep her three kids off the street. But when she’s laid off with no warning, she starts losing hope for the first time – until a letter arrives announcing the death of a father she’s never met. Desperate for any kind of help, Brenda takes her family to Georgia for the funeral. But nothing could have prepared her for the Browns, her father’s fun-loving, crass Southern clan. In a small-town world full of long afternoons and country fairs, Brenda struggles to get to know the family she never knew existed…and finds a brand new romance that just might change her life.

I’m wondering if Angela Bassett and Rick Fox are love interests in this film?  Angela, I can see, but Rick Fox?  You’ve got to be kidding me?  If Angela signed on, this means that she really believes in the project.  She rarely, and I do mean rarely, makes a shitty film, except for that train wreck called A Vampire In Brooklyn. *insert dry heaves here* Maybe she can make Rick look good on screen.  I’ve seen his acting in the past and it was majorly stilted.

I’m a big fan of Tyler Perry’s films. I know this one will be a great sucess.

Yup, Angela and Rick are playing love interests (Brenda and Harry) in this film. I wondered if Rick could pull it off too because Angela’s so good she’ll make him look bad. But who really cares with a man that fine? I trust Angela, I’m going to see it just for her, and Tyler continues to get better and better with his films so I have high hopes for “Meet the Browns”!

I’m so with you on A Vampire In Brooklyn wreck that is on Angela’s resume. We’ll chalk that one up to Eddie now won’t we? And did you know that she was approached first for that flick that Halle won her Oscar for? I don’t think I could have seen Angela doing that role. Unless of course it was with me! ; ) Tyler is on a roll right now. Go Mr. Perry and do the damn thing!

Luke, she was also supposed to be Storm in the X-Men movies, but backed out of the role due to a commitment to another project. And we all know that role was offered to Halle later.

Luke, you are a fool for that! HA! Cant blame you though, Angela is gorgeous.

Its crazy how Angela and Halle are up for most of the same roles. There are so few roles in Hollywood for black actresses that they have to compete like that, its a shame. But that project that Angela was commited to instead of X-Men was Supernova, one film that made the very short list of Bad Angela Bassett Films. tsk tsk She would’ve been great as Storm.

Great post, Nikki.

I can’t BELIEVE you were thinking of deleting me from your blogroll!!!! I’m back…and hopefully for a long while. Tyler is definitely working overtime…but I agree with you on the “insert name here” thing…kinda played. I’ll definitely have to check this out…gotta love Angela…while his films very rarely ever having me leaving the theater deep in though, they are definitely entertaining. Thanks for the preview!

Yes, Darbs, your name was on the chopping block! I was going to give you until the end of the year before I gave you the boot. LOL!

Wow! This is a really cool site you have here. I didn’t even realize you were still blogging. I didn’t see the blog on the bottom of your profile for a whole now so thought you had just assumed a readership role. I happened to catch the web page icon on the side bar just by chance this time. Nice work over here!

Love Angela Bassett, but I don’t follow Tyler Perry’s work much, and I’m not sure if I’ll go see this…..maybe on Netflix. I’d need a compelling reason to see this in the theater….like Richard T. Jones or my husband, Idris Elba, yanno? ;)

@Simonique: Waitasecond! Angela didn’t do X-Men because she was working on Supernova??? Good God! That was a bad movie!

@ ms. Nikki: that’s right. I had forgotten that Singer wanted her for Storm first. Wow! She definitely would have been awesome. And I love her jaw definition and cheek bones. She is an artists’ delight.

@ Nikki: Whew…I JUST made it. I got to stay on my game now! :)

Tyler is branding himself. Danielle Steele does it too. I ain’t mad at him.

Rick Fox’s face scares me. It resembles the Scream mask just like John Kerry.

Yeah, pairing a veteran actor with a new actor is usually a bad idea. But if you notice Tyler’s history, he always chooses heart-throbs for any male roles. You will never see an unattractive man in his movies. To me, it seems very… “How YOOOU doin?”, as Wendy Williams would say… but whatever.

And the Tyler Perry in the name is branding but it is also setting himself up to only do films like this for the rest of his career. Can you imagine an oscar award going to a film with the word’s “Tyler Perry presents” in front of it? Me either.

Just wanted to take time out to say wassup to those who put this page/site together, as well as all of those listeners in tune with the music. I love this music and the energy behind it. Yes, hit-authors do take time out to communicate. So, holla atcha boy, even if you DON’T read my novels.
Word.
