Don’t be so mean, Beijing!

Have you heard about the city of Beijing, China banning Blacks and Mongolians from their bars during the 2008 Summer Olympics? Allegedly, bar owners near the Workers Stadium in central Beijing say they have been forced by Public Security Bureau officials to sign pledges agreeing not to let Black people or Mongolians enter their premises for fear that these races of people may become “rowdy”.

It seems to me that this is a contradiction of the official 2008 Summer Olympics slogan, One World, One Dream. And if this is true, Beijing may miss out on some much needed tourism money with this act of racism.

Now, being an African American (Black) myself, I’ve socially partaken of fine liqueurs with people of various races. And I can tell you this………….we are not the ones you need to worry about that are getting rowdy while drinking.

I KNOW that’s right. I guess I’ll be boycotting this year since they want to do it up Jim Crow style.

Oh, you know there’s gonna be some mess behind that, right?

Aren’t there a bunch of protests going on over there right now? Wasn’t there a problem with some of the torch relays?

Funny… when I was watching the news with the protests and isshas with the torch- I didn’t see any black folks out there. WE aren’t the ones they need to be worried about.

this is so true. I do not drink alcohol but I do know that if I had a choice between being around blacks and the “other” race…I choose my people all the time. White America get liquor in there system and it is not good. Then they try to blame the alcohol. It’s amazing how other races do not want “blacks” around but we are the most laid back people when it comes to getting our “buzz” on.

fyah bun Beijing!

So what do the black athletes of the world think about this b.s?

Uhm, what if black Olympic athletes wanna have a drink at one of these bars? Then what? I have got to find out more about this. thanks for the heads up!

Umm you are so right about that. We aren’t the ones who make it a part of their culture to drink and get wild. It’s a sad day when this kind of discrimination is STILL going on.

Dang, they are restricting the entire US basketball team. I won’t be watching this year’s Olympics if this is the policy.

we’re definitely not. they better be on their p’s and q’s when *those folks* pile up in their local pubs and bars… *shakes head* i’m not surprised by this though.

I didn’t know that Jim Crow was Far East Coast??

I just got back in June from a month long trip to China…of all the cities I visited…Beijing was my least favorite. Don’t get me wrong…beautiful gardens, the great wall, the forbidden city are awesome…but just not a friendly feeling in Beijing.
I wondered had I wandered into a bar…would I have been asked to leave…hmmmm…
