Miriam Zenzi Makeba
March 4, 1932 – November 9, 2008
Legendary South African singer, Miriam Makeba, died of a heart attack on yesterday after collapsing on stage during a performance in Italy. Miriam once stated, “I will sing until the last day of my life.” She passed away doing what she loved to do.

She was such a remarkable woman…
She will never be forgotten….and there will never be another like her… there will never be another who can imitate her…
She will live on and on and on with her greatness…

I watched a documentary on Miriam and it was fabulous. Her mark on South Africa will live on forever. In Jamaica, we have someone like her who has the same kind of stature. Her name is Louise Bennett. Where are the mothers of nations? We desperately need to bring them to the fore.
