Bebe Moore Campbell
(February 18, 1950 - November 27, 2006)

Growing up, I’ve always heard elders talk about deaths occuring in 3’s, but I’d never really paid attention to that saying until now. First Ed Bradley, then Gerald Levert and now today a voice in the literary world was silenced.

Author Bebe Moore Campbell died today at 12:15 am at the age of 56 from complications due to brain cancer. Her book, Your Blues Ain’t Like Mine, was one of my favorites. May she rest in peace.

Gerald Levert
July 13, 1966 - November 10, 2006

As if Ed Bradley’s passing on yesterday didn’t sadden me enough, today R&B singer, Gerald Levert, passed away at age 40 from a heart attack. I’d met Gerald on a couple of occasions when I’d seen him (and his group Levert) perform at his nightclub in Cleveland when I attended college in Ohio. Still cannot believe he’s gone. I don’t know how much more bad news I can take.

He was one of the most respected and highly regarded journalists in the world. He’s probably interviewing Malcolm, Martin, JFK and Bobby as we speak.
