On Saturday, my younger cousin Maria turned 14. My cousin Angela turned 40 today, and my own birthday was just a couple of weeks ago. So during the celebration dinner last night that I attended in honor of both cousins birthdays, Angela’s husband Mark said, “Angie, they say 40 is the new 30.”

My mother remarked, “If 40 is the new 30, then what is 60?” Of which my mother is. Without missing a beat, Maria’s brother, who is 8, answered my mother by saying, “Old”. We fell out laughing at him. Even Mom had to laugh at his quick wit.
