I used to love VH1. Not only did they show videos, but they showed informative music news programs. Well, not anymore. VH1 is contributing to the Coonification of America. Damn near every reality show that they air shows Blacks in a bad light.

If it’s not the Flavor of Love trilogy, it’s the I Love New York shows. When Flav decided not to come back for a 4th time, I breathed a small sigh of relief………..that was until a week ago. Now New York is back with New York Goes To Hollywood and Diddy has a new reality show on VH1 called I Want To Work For Diddy, where he has folks scrambling to do his bidding.

VH1 (and apparently the majority of America) just loves to see Black people make fools of themselves. But I don’t think that VH1 is solely to blame. Viacom is the real culprit. Viacom owns VH1, MTV and BET. Those 3 channels alone have produced some of the worst reality shows on television. And guess which race dominates on those reality shows? You guessed it, Black people! And the majority of those shitty ass reality shows are shown on VH1, which is my reason for this rant.

This shit must stop! What the fuck is wrong with us? If I see one more person of color lowering themselves for the sake of fame and/or money, I’m gonna scream. And with most of these competitions, they only win like $100,000. And after taxes, you don’t end up with much money. Okay, you buy a car and what else? Not much left, huh? Just plain ignorant. Fame is fleeting. Stay your ass in school and away from VH1!

It’s time for Spot the Plot:

Have you seen Common in the Gap ads for Christmas? Y’all know I love me some Common, so I was extremely excited when I first saw the commercial. He’s the new spokesman for Gap’s hooded sweatshirts, sweaters and jackets. Bow Wow also has a commercial to be released as well for Gap’s hooded sweatshirts, sweaters and jackets.

Gap always has some innovative commercials with musicians and actors, which I think is cool. But maybe I was reading too much into these new Peace Love Gap commercials. I tend to over analyze shit when I’ve had too much eggnog to drink. But I was watching the commercial again last week and I was saying to self, “Is the Gap targeting the urban youth with this ad?”

Gap is calling this ad campaign Holiday in your Hood. You have 2 hip-hop artists selling your wares, hoodies specifically. Don’t get me wrong, I see you have other races sprinkled throughout the commercial, but c’mon dawg, we all know that the urban youth are the main ones wearing hooded sweatshirts and parkas.

If you surf the Gap website, you’ll see celebrities like Maria Bello, Stephanie Seymour, Diane Kruger, Helen Mirren, Taylor Hackford, Deepak Chopra, Claudia Schiffer and Seal wearing various hooded garments. That’s a broad range of individuals, right? How come Seal isn’t in the commercials singing about Peace Love Gap. Is it because the Gap thinks that he won’t reach that target audience for hoodies?
