(Un)Pretty In Pink

Some friends and I decided to go to a local Waffle House for breakfast before church this morning. So we’re at the table talking about how our weekend turned out and perused through the menu to place our orders. And then our server comes…………with pink braids.

Not a soft, pale pink (like that really makes a difference), but hot pink. And I’m not talking microbraids, either. I’m talkin’ about the big dookie braids that Janet Jackson rocked in Poetic Justice. Big ass pink, or as we say down South, pank, braids. And get this……..no hair net. *gasp*

Now I’m not one to be rude to waitresses, because I don’t want anyone spitting in my food, but this chick ain’t had not nann (yeah, I broke every verb with that one) hair net on and I’m supposed to let her serve me food? I think not.

I politely gathered my things and told my friends, “I’ll see you guys at church. And I’ll pray that you don’t choke on a pink strand of hair.”

Say no to the label!

Each year I usually compile a list of Fashion Don’ts on my blog, but this year I’m not going with a list. I’m going to speak about one Fashion Don’t for men that needs to end immediately! And here it is……..

To all of the men who are wearing the label of your suit on the sleeve of the suit coat…………..cut that shit out! This is not cute. You are supposed to remove that label before you wear the suit out in public.

And since I love you like a play cousin, I did a little research online to find out where this trend started in the first place.

The labeled sleeve was a trend a few years back in that segment of our society in which voguing was an important social activity. The contestants in voguing balls often wore merchandise fresh from the store, one way or another (purchased with the intention of returning it or shoplifted), and so sometimes labels or even security tags would be attached.

This, of course, added to the humor of the performance and the ironic fashion of the unremoved sleeve label. The concept caught on to the extent that some men were sending their jeans to the dry cleaners with pocket flashers still attached. The point of voguing is to be outlandish, outré and bad.

As printed on the Men.style.com website, February 2003.

So unless you are voguing in a competition, stop wearing the damn label on your suit coat/sports coat sleeve. You don’t realize how silly you look. It burns me up to see a good looking guy in a nice suit with the label on the sleeve of the coat. If your suit is nice, I’ll compliment you on it, but remove the label.

Bailey (5 months old)

Remember my Cocker Spaniel puppy, Bailey, that I got for Christmas? Well, Bailey is 5 months old today. He’s one active puppy, and it’s hard to get good pics of him when he’s in high gear. But when I give him a bath, he instantly goes into chill mode. So I snapped this capture of him tonight post-bath.

Oh, and I’m going to get his tail docked next week. I should have done it when he was a few weeks old, but I had too many irons in the fire at the time. I know he’s not looking forward to that. :(
